Therapy with me is a relational, collaborative process rooted in the belief that healing happens in connection—with ourselves, with others, and with the natural world. I show up as a real person in the room, not a distant expert, and I walk alongside you with curiosity, warmth, and respect for your lived experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible?

Pre-licensed clinicians interested in developing the business and clinical skills to operate a successful private practice while working toward licensure.

Am I an employee?

Ascend fellows are temporary, full-time employees of Pulse Wellness Cooperative. Fellows will not receive traditional benefits (health insurance, retirement, etc.) while enrolled in the program. However, Fellows receive a higher rate of pay than permanent employees, all operations expenses are covered for the two years of participation, individual and group clinical supervision, and monthly business development training seminars. Check out the Ascend Fact Sheet for more detailed information.

Can I see Care Oregon/OHP clients? What insurance can I accept?
Ascend fellows will be paneled with all insurance providers that Pulse Wellness Cooperative Registered Associates accept. At this time, those are Moda, OHP – CareOregon and HealthShare. Please note: Pulse Wellness Cooperative has a Certificate of Authority (COA) through the Oregon Health Authority. The COA designation comes with higher documentation requirements and compliance considerations. These specific documentation demands exceed those for private or contracted group practices.
What is the commitment?
Ascend is designed as a cohort model that lasts 24 months, beginning in January and ending in December of the following year. Participants are expected to commit to at least 12 months in the program (January – December). Adjustments or special considerations will be made on a case-by-case basis. Applicants are asked to commit to the entire program as a commitment to their cohort members and colleagues in the program.
How much will it cost me?
There is no fee associated with participation in the Ascend Fellowship.
How much time will it take?
An associate maintaining 20-25 completed sessions per week is expected to meet direct service hours requirements within 2 years. This program is designed to prepare fellows for licensure within 2 years. The timeline may be shorter for associates further along in their licensure process. Individual requests or needs for extension will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
Will I be a permanent employee?
No. Ascend Fellows will be considered temporary employees for the duration of their tenure in the program.
Will I be eligible for the Co-op?
No. Ascend Fellows will not be eligible for membership in the Pulse Wellness Cooperative.
How much will I make?

The Ascend compensation model includes a commission split of 55/45. The company retains 55% and the fellow receives 45% of the total commission earned. In addition, fellows receive $300/month in base documentation pay. Earnings for Ascend fellows are capped at $90,000/year.

(An estimate of earnings for an associate seeing between 20-25 clients per week over 48 weeks, adjusting for variations in forms of payment, insurance companies, and reimbursement rates, is $75,000 – $90,000.)

Are there benefits?

Due to the temporary employee status, Fellows do not receive employer-paid health insurance, retirement contributions, etc. Fellows will be responsible for their health insurance coverage.

Other benefits of participation in the program include: malpractice insurance, licensure and exam fees, weekly individual and monthly group supervision, monthly business development seminar, and all operating expenses paid (electronic health record, Zoom, office space, Psychology Today listing, Pulse Wellness website profile, credentialing, billing services, shared resources).

Can I leave?
Fellows are encouraged to complete the timeline that is set out when they begin. However, there is no penalty for leaving the program early and fellows can do so at their discretion. Ascend also reserves the right to terminate fellows who fail to meet agreed-upon expectations laid out in the Fellowship contract and/or in the event of legal or ethical breaches of conduct.
What about my clients when I leave?
Choosing a provider is a right of all clients. Your clients will have the option to follow you upon completion of your time as an Ascend fellow if they choose to do so. This transition is built into the process and will be addressed in detail to ensure choice, compliance, and confidentiality.
Who will be my supervisor?

Each fellow will be assigned an appropriate supervisor from the roster of clinical supervisors on the Pulse Wellness Cooperative team. The team is comprised of LCSWs and LPCs. Our supervisors can oversee registered associates in Clinical Social Work, Professional Counseling, and Marriage and Family Therapy.

Where will my office be located?
Fellows have the option to work remotely if they have a HIPAA-compliant home office. Pulse Wellness Cooperative will provide office space for in-person sessions. Office space is limited and scheduling will be dependent on availability. Offices are shared among staff, interns, and fellows. The practice office is currently located at 2738 NE Broadway in Portland. Private office space at this location is available for in-person therapy sessions with clients, but not for administrative purposes.
I don't identify as any of the above-listed underrepresented identities. Do I qualify? Will my application be considered?

Our goal is to support excellent therapists who match the identities of the communities we serve, which includes a lot of different people! All applicants with all types of lived experience, identities, and interests will be considered.
