Each year, as the leaves and weather change we often experience memories of school days and new beginnings. At Pulse, the start of fall also means we have students joining us for their final year long internship in graduate school. The Pulse team spends a lot of time and energy selecting, training, and supporting our students and they are very much a part of our team during this critical time in their career.
Supervising new clinicians is one of the most satisfying, energizing, and fun things I have gotten to take part in throughout my career. As therapists, we go through our own transformations as we enter the field, it is a professional journey but it is also deeply personal. The start of our careers often involves confronting why we do this work, things that have happened to us, and powerful therapeutic experiences we’ve had ourselves. To supervise a new clinician is to be welcomed as mentor, teacher, and hopefully, caring supporter.
This fall we are very excited to welcome 5 interns from the PSU MSW and Lewis & Clark Art Therapy programs.
Working with an intern as a client is an incredible opportunity to be supported by someone who has been in the field, (usually doing similar work to therapy) and is up to date on all of the latest research, techniques, and information. Their energy makes them dynamic in the therapy room and the support of supervisors means that their clients experience even more excellent and collaborative care.
